Brownsburg Indiana is located about 30 minutes or 18 miles northwest of downtown Indianapolis. This small town in Hendricks County has a population of about 27,000 residents. It was ranked #33, the highest-ranking town in Indiana on the CN and Money Magazine’s list of America’s best to small towns.
Originally settled back in 1824, this is sick wilderness was home to just hunters and trappers as well as the Delaware Indians. A one-room brick schoolhouse was built in 1828 and the town was originally called Harrisburg under the original architect of the community William Harris. It was coined as Brownsburg in 1836 with the establishment of the first post office.
Today, Brownsburg is a motorsports mecca home to Lucas Oil Raceway, the most prestigious drag racing event in the world. Were also just 20 minutes from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, host to the Indianapolis 500 so driving is in our blood.
The Natural Valley Ranch offers horseback riding across their scenic grounds and you’ll find great eateries, the Pit Stop barbecue, shops, restaurants, and more throughout Brownsburg. Brownsburg is part of the Brownsburg Community School Corporation and offers seven elementary schools, the East and West middle school, and the Brownsburg high school. Harris Academy is also located within the Brownsburg community and is a mastery-based a small learning community that serves the high school and Avon high school offering juniors and seniors a nontraditional study environment.
Our growth has been rapid but one of the best things about Brownsburg is our revitalize downtown shopping area, sports and recreational activities and availability, and strong buying power within the housing market. Our recent job growth is on a positive upswing with the unemployment rate at just 2.9%. Brownsburg’s cost of living is about 6.3% lower than the US average and as of the publishing of this page, the median home price in Brownsburg is just over $200,000. Our home appreciation over the last 10 years has been nearly 9%.
