Plainfield Indiana is located in Guilford, Liberty, and Washington Township’s all part of the Hendricks County. It’s home to about 33,000 residents.
Plainfield got its start back in 1822 and has been associated with the National Road, US Route 40, which runs through the town as Main Street. But it’s always been known as Plainfield. It’s about 15 miles southwest of downtown Indianapolis and is conveniently located on the southwest side of the metro area and location played a big part in the city’s history. When it first laid out its economic development plan, town leaders recognize that the expansion of the international Airport was both a blessing and a curse. It made the land between state Road to 67 and Marion County line impossible for housing but the airport was already in the process of buying out the houses in the area. Today, large parcels of land make up the commercial area and close proximity to the airport is actually a selling point for many homes directly out of the flight plan.
Plainfield has many parks and recreational facilities such as its extensive trails, area parks, playgrounds, and sports fields. The Shoppes the Perry Crossing provide unique boutiques, cafés, and those tried-and-true favorites. The Plainfield farmers market has been voted #1 in Hendricks County and opens from June to September. You’ll find local produce, bread, cheeses, meats, and unique gifts you’ll only find at the farmers market.
Splash Island is where you’ll find just about every adolescent and kid throughout the summer months. This unique water park features over 4 acres of waterslides, interactive play, a winding river, Lily pad Crossing, two pulsating vortexes, and deck space, lap pool, leisure River, water basketball, and zero-depth kiddie pool and splash area.
